The fire that burned inside her. It was dying. It no longer seemed bright and searching. It was sputtering out as she moved.
Flame was wandering through Esthra. She had been wandering forever. It's time to let go. She's gone. Don't wait for her. Get on with your life! Her reasonable side said, but she drove it to the back of her mind. "I will never give up. I will spend my whole life searching for you Elise." Her voice choked through the tears. Most of her days had been spent crying. She couldn't help it. Every time Elise entered her thoughts, she would see in her mind's eye a dead body. The dead body of her friend. Her dearest closest companion. "SHE'S NOT DEAD." The voice was nothing like Flame's. It was quiet but filled with fury. She was a calm wolf in battle, but when it came to feelings. She was as frightened as a pup.
Her feet were carrying her to the edge of a cliff. She was about to step right off before she stopped herself. Oh what’s the point, and she flopped onto her side looking out upon Esthra. So beautiful, yet so horrible. It brings us pain, but it brings us joy. It’s cruel, and yet it provides food and shelter.
Nothing in this life was ever simple. It seemed that everything Flame did, only brought her pain in the end. Finding Elise had made her so happy, but when Elise disappeared. Flame was devastated.
If only there was a better way…
Her eyes flicked to the edge of the cliff, and slowly, but soundly, she rose to her feet.
